Crass-Penis Envy (1981)
Crass was just fucking musically horrendous. Even for punk rock, they were just horrible. The production on their albums were often equally horrid. Sometimes sounds like an old tape being eaten in your stereo while some type of electrical interference combines with it to create a godawful sound.
That being said, a lot of their essay-like lyrics were pretty good, even if they were a bunch of vegan, pacifist, individualist lifestylist dicks (no pun intended).

Funkadelic-Let's Take It To the Stage (1975)
During the summer of 2005, I got heavily into funk. Ebay + credit card = buying up the entire Parliament and Funkadelic discography, as well as numerous other compilations and groups. This might be my favorite Funkadelic record, and one I jacked the drums from often when I was dabbling in production.

This has some good joints on it, but overall, it's not my favorite from The Psycho Realm camp. Production is slipping and some of the choruses and song structures are just plain wack.

The Coup - Steal This Album (1998)
Communist hip-hop from the Bay Area. First time I heard of Boots Riley and Pam The Funkstress was in some Thrasher magazine from '99-00 that I checked out from the library because they had some cool pix of graffiti in there. This is good stuff and I'm adhering to the album title's order.

I remember when this dropped, it kinda came out of nowhere. I already done had some of these tracks, as they were floating around the internet, but after Duke's shooting, Jacken apparently went back into the studio and did some shit to finish up this album. Not as good as the first one, but still worth the time of day.

Sort of a Psycho Realm side project, this was the first official project to come out after Big Duke's shooting. Looking back, I kind of wonder how in the hell we even tracked this record down, because our access to the internet was somewhat limited and this shit wasn't exactly at most music stores. Somebody must have had Napster or Audiogalaxy (remember that shit?)

The Psycho Realm-A War Story Book 1 (1999)
To me, this is, like a perfect hip-hop album. Tales of revolution, gang bangin', government repression, Big Brother, cholo talk, over menacing beats. Probably my favorite duo of all time. Sick Jacken is still putting things out, but his bro Big Duke got blasted a while back and his been out of the game for a minute, although I heard he's making beats now.

His Hero Is Gone-Fifteen Counts Of Arson (1996)
"Yes, they're from Memphis, Tennessee, but don't expect any Elvis imitators; His Hero Is Gone's songs are powerfully incendiary blitzkriegs of fierce anti-authoritarian, anti-racist, anti-consumerist rage. This band harnesses a hardcore metal pathos that rivals Neurosis and Napalm Death, and like those bands, His Hero Is Gone's music serves as a vehicle for searing, declamatory, far-left social commentary. The music is brooding, primitive and, at times, almost crushingly heavy; the songs range from sluggishly slow to blurry fast, and they are short, incisive, and unapologetically caustic. Guitarist Todd Burdette does the primary roaring and decrying while his brother Paul pounds out propulsive drum rhythms, Carl Auge supplies the epic bass lines and handles the rest of the vocals, and Yannick Lorrain plays a searing razor-edged second guitar."

Fucked Up-Epics In Minutes (2004)
Collection of songs from EPs, 7", tapes, B-Sides, compilations and other assorted sources from the much hearalded hardcore turned experimental hardcore band. This was before they made 8 minutes songs and were into 80's style hardcore that sounded like Poison Idea resurrected. Check out the later stuff, too, of course, but this is my favorite stuff from em.

Ever wonder why all those metalcore bands came about? Well, this album is one of the reasons. But, rest assured, this is no generic bro moshpit muzak or brokenhearted whining, this is what metalcore is supposed to be. By the way, this mawfucka's vocal chords had to be shredded into pulp after recording this. My lordskees.

Born/Dead-The Final Collapse (2007)
Reading reviews of Born/Dead's records in Maximum Rock N Roll years ago, I knew immediately that this would be a band I would cherish. A couple years later when I got a hold of Endless...Repetition (CD collection of various splits and 7"), I found that assumption to be quite true. This is crust the way Allah intended: dark, heavy, and pissed. Even the fact that they have primitivist type politics isn't enough to keep my ears away from their music. Even when in 'nothing but hip-hop' phase, I'll still throw these cats on.
